Reckoning With Risk

18 07 2012

Having been an admirer of the work of Gerd Gigerenzer for some time, I decided to pick up a copy of his book ‘Reckoning with Risk’. This work details the ways in which statistics, particularly when presented in medical contexts, can lead people into drawing illogical conclusions.

I am someone who happens to think of themselves as statistically competent, but Gigerenzer stresses that even medical consultants can be fooled by the presentation of stats, making it difficult to comprehend risk and apply the theory of probability.

This book is for anyone who feels that they may be in need to clearing those clouded calculations. Which frankly, is most of us.
